Terms of service

Last updated October 3, 2026.

These are the terms for using Aislekit Backup, a Shopify app I build and run. By installing it you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, write to me at support@aislekit.app.

What the app does

It backs up your store's data (products and images, collections, content, menus, metafields and metaobjects, files, discounts, translations, locations, markets, customers, orders, draft orders, B2B companies, gift cards and store credit, among others), restores items you choose, and exports your store as it was at a moment you pick. Gift cards and store credit are kept for your records and never written back. A restore can only put back what Shopify lets an app set. Everything it can't is listed on what restores, and what doesn't, and every restore gives you a receipt that says, field by field, what came back.

Plans and billing

Plans are billed by Shopify, on your Shopify bill, monthly or yearly. Each paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial, and a store that comes back within 180 days doesn't get a second one. Shopify may add tax to the price.

The price promise

I'll never raise the price of the plan you're on or add usage or overage fees to it, and if your store outgrows the plan, your bill only changes when you choose a bigger plan yourself.

Never raised, and never upgraded without your approval.

This is how it's kept:

  • The price of a plan is never changed once anyone is on it. If prices ever change, that's a new plan, and nobody on the old one is moved.
  • The terms of your plan (its price, its product limit, how far back restores go and its image allowance) are recorded when you subscribe, and they stay yours for as long as you stay on it.
  • There are no meters, no usage or overage fees and no automatic upgrades, and a plan limit never pauses a backup.
  • If your store grows past your plan's product limit, nothing changes for at least 14 days after I've told you, in the app or by email. After that, I may keep new restore points for products beyond the limit for 30 days instead of a year, and stop saving new images of them. Nothing already kept is shortened, and your bill only changes if you choose a bigger plan.
  • The promise travels with the app. If the app is ever sold, whoever takes it on takes on this promise too.

Cancelling and uninstalling

You can change or cancel your plan any time on Shopify's plan page, and uninstalling stops billing too. When you uninstall, backups stop at once, and everything the app holds for your store is deleted about 48 hours later, every copy within 30 days, as the privacy policy sets out. So download what you want to keep before you go; the Settings screen has a button for it.

If your store stays installed with no active plan, nothing is deleted without notice first. If Shopify freezes your subscription over a billing problem, your backups are kept untouched until Shopify reactivates or cancels it.

If the app ever closes

You'll get at least 60 days' notice, and a full export of everything the app holds for your store before anything is deleted.

Your data, and how I process it

Your store's data stays yours. This section is the data processing agreement between you and me. It covers your store's data and the personal data in it, such as your customers' names, email addresses, phone numbers and addresses. For that personal data you're the controller and I'm your processor: I handle it only to provide the app to you, and only on your instructions, which are the settings you choose and the things you ask the app to do.

What's processed, and why

What the app backs up is listed in the privacy policy. It's used only to back up your store, restore the items you choose, export your store when you ask, copy it to a store or storage of yours when you set that up, and show you what was backed up. It's never sold, never used for advertising and never used to build a profile of anyone.

Where it's kept

On a server I rent from Contabo; the privacy policy says where. The app's database is copied every night, encrypted before the copy is written, and an encrypted copy is also kept on my own computer, so that losing the server doesn't lose your history. Both copies are kept for 14 days.

Who else handles it

Only Contabo, which rents me the server. Shopify is where your store lives and where the app reads it from. If you set up a copy to storage of your own, the app sends your export there because you asked it to, and that storage is yours, under your own agreement with its provider. Before any other company holds your data, I'll name it in the privacy policy and tell you in the app at least 30 days ahead, so you can uninstall if you object.

How it's protected

  • Each store's backups are encrypted at rest, with a key of their own.
  • Your data only travels over encrypted connections: to and from Shopify, to your browser, and to storage you set up.
  • The nightly database copies are encrypted to a key that is never kept on the server.
  • I'm the only person with access to the server, and signing in to it over the network takes a key, never a password. Its database accepts no connection from outside the server.

If something goes wrong

If your store's data is ever exposed, I'll tell Shopify within 24 hours of finding out, and I'll tell you directly what happened, which data it involved and what I've done about it.

When you uninstall

Backups stop at once. Everything the app holds for your store is deleted about 48 hours later, and every copy, including the encrypted database copies on the server and on my computer, is gone within 30 days.

Your customers' requests

When a customer asks you for their data, you can download what the app holds on them from the app. When Shopify passes on a customer's request to be erased, the app deletes that customer from your backups the same day, and the nightly database copies roll them out within 14 days. If you need anything else to answer a request, write to me and I'll help. Any question about how your data is handled, I'll answer in writing.

Fair use

Please don't use the app to attack, overload or probe it or Shopify, or to reach a store you don't run. One installation serves one store.

No guarantee

I work hard to make every backup and restore right, and each restore's receipt tells you exactly what came back. Still, the app is provided as it is, and it can't guarantee that nothing is ever lost. As far as the law allows, I'm not liable for indirect losses, and my liability for anything to do with the app is limited to what you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, I'll say so in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. No change can raise the price of the plan you're on.
